Company Background
I started Inductive Automation in 2003, because after 25 years as a controls systems integrator, I finally had endured enough frustrations dealing with industrial software. Many people thought I was crazy to enter a mature and well established software market, but they missed the point. I wasn't out to make software that competed with the established players, because my main frustration was that the established players weren't making the software that my customers needed. I needed to accomplish things that were too cost prohibitive, impractical, or plain impossible to do with any of the software options I had. I assembled an ace team of people with backgrounds in controls, software engineering, and IT, and we got to work.It all started after a disheartening three year span where nearly every HMI / SCADA and MES project I proposed got killed. Why did this happen? It was the high cost of software and the high cost to implement it. We were using the wrong technology to do things. If it wasn't the impracticality, it was the ridiculous pricing model that ruined things, and everybody seemed to know it. IT departments were using web technology and SQL databases, yet we in the controls business were ten years behind. So when we came out with our first web-based and database centric products, with a sensible licensing model, they were an instant hit. Of course, understandably, there were those concerned that this little company, Inductive Automation, might not last. Well it has lasted, and now it counts among its large and ever expanding customer base many of the largest companies from around the globe. The software is now used in industries as far flung as aerospace, water and wastewater, transportation, food and beverage, construction, energy, broadcasting, printing, all types of heavy and light manufacturing and the list goes on.For 2010 we've released Ignition by Inductive Automation™, our new software platform that includes everything we've learned and much of what you've asked for. Everything is simplified, and at the same time there is more power and functionality under the hood. With the Ignition platform we are poised to quickly and easily adjust to any shift of technology for the foreseeable future. Based on this new platform, and due to its new modular architecture, you can look forward to frequent new developments and releases. We are looking forward to working with our customers and integrators to continue providing unprecedented value and making advances in the industry. Those of you who have been with us know that we're serious about our core values and that we're a different breed of industrial software company. For those of you new to us, please download Ignition and discover it for yourself. This will be more convincing than anything I could say.Steven A. Hechtman - See my blog here
