Unifying Data From Six Different Divisions

The organization started using Ignition as a more cost-effective way of meeting the air quality data requirements of its state Environmental Protection Agency. This initially amounted to a few pages within a project, around 100 tags, and a couple of clients. It now monitors over 114 Allen-Bradley devices, tracks over 10,700 tags, and has 130-plus current active clients with an expected expansion to over 300 clients by year-end.

Creating Tag Tools in Ignition for Porting From Other SCADA Platforms

The client is Continental Cement, a continuous-process cement plant located in Hannibal, Missouri. The project involved porting a Citect SCADA platform project based on TOP Server as the OPC server. The Citect system is a legacy system with various iterations enhanced over time by various parties. Each party had their own methodology, naming conventions, and standards for graphic objects. The goal of the port was to move the entire legacy system to Ignition, and, as part of the process, normalize the tag tree and naming conventions with uniform HMI navigation behavior. As there was no overall documentation for the legacy system, the port consisted of reverse-engineering the entire Citect system. Due to this, for functional validation to be effective, the ‘new’ Ignition windows had to contain graphics objects with a look, window placement, and behavior equivalent to the Citect system.

The Power & Flexibility of Ignition: Continental Cement SCADA Port

Overbridge Technology will present a large-scale system port project performed for Continental Cement in Hannibal, Mo. The project consists of migrating approximately 25,000 tags and 90 HMI windows from a continuous-process live Citect platform to Ignition. The presentation will cover system architecture and strategy, various Ignition tools developed by Overbridge Technologies to programmatically migrate the Citect tags, along with enhancements to EasyChart for contextual pen reference trending.
