"I've waited 17 years for a platform like Ignition to come along. Now with MQTT and Ignition, IIoT is a reality."
– Arlen Nipper
Co-Inventor of MQTT
Instantly Subscribe to Your Industrial Data
For years, industrial applications have polled for data by directly connecting to devices, resulting in antiquated systems that are unnecessarily complicated, nearly impossible to scale, and that leave huge amounts of data stranded in the field. By leveraging the MQTT protocol’s publish-and-subscribe methodologies, Ignition decouples devices from applications and pushes the polling to the edge of the network. This creates one streamlined data pipeline that frees data to be instantly accessible to the entire enterprise, without straining data bandwidth.
MQTT: Build a Truly “Industrial” Internet of Things
Ignition uses MQTT: a proven, standard, data-transfer protocol that is quickly becoming the leading messaging protocol for the IIoT. MQTT was designed specifically to meet the demands of industrial control systems, so it’s extremely lightweight (2-byte header), bidirectional, stateful, and secured with TLS technology.Learn more about MQTT
One Universal Platform for IIoT, SCADA and More
Ignition is the only IIoT platform with built-in tools for creating full-featured SCADA systems. Ignition is modular, so you can easily add fully integrated software modules for building industrial applications such as SCADA, alarming, reporting and more. With Ignition, you can connect to all your IIoT data, rapidly develop any kind of industrial application, and instantly web-launch clients to virtually any device — all without limits.
Automatic Tag Creation and Health Metrics
Eliminate hours of tedious data entry with Ignition and MQTT. Upon each initial connection, tags are automatically learned and instantly created in Ignition. Once tags are created, their data values are continually updated as new values are published from the field. With Ignition, you can track metrics about the health of your system, including data from end devices, edge gateways, and MQTT servers.
Add Integrated MQTT Software Modules
Cirrus Link Solutions is a strategic third-party module partner of Inductive Automation with years of experience developing top-quality IIoT solutions. With software modules for transmitting data from the field via MQTT, launching an MQTT server in the cloud, and connecting that data to industrial and business applications, the Cirrus Link IIoT modules for Ignition empower organizations to create one streamlined pipeline for all their IIoT data.Learn more about Cirrus Link Modules
Ignition IIoT Architectures
Adding the Cirrus Link MQTT Modules to the Ignition platform empowers companies to set up their own IIoT solution. There are four main features to an Ignition IIoT architecture.
Publish Data from The Network’s Edge
With Ignition IIoT, you can connect to virtually any PLC or device, and transmit and receive edge-of-network data in multiple ways: READ MORE
Publish and Subscribe to Data Through MQTT
Ignition has several ways to securely connect, publish, and subscribe to MQTT data including launching its own MQTT server or connecting to compatible ones. READ MORE

What is Ignition IIoT and how do I buy it?
IIgnition IIoT is a software solution for building custom IIoT infrastructures and applications. It consists of the Ignition platform and powerful modules that add functionality to the platform. A standard Ignition IIoT package consists of these modules: MQTT Engine , MQTT Distributor , MQTT Transmission , Vision , OPC UA (with drivers) , Alarm Notification , Reporting , and Mobile. You may need a different set of modules depending on what you’re trying to do; to find what you’ll need to create your ideal IIoT system, call us at: 1-800-266-7798
What are Ignition modules and how do they work?
Ignition is a unified platform for connecting data, and designing and deploying industrial applications throughout an enterprise. The development power of Ignition is extensible through the addition of fully integrated software modules. Each module adds new functions to the Ignition platform, which enables users to create applications for SCADA, MES, IIoT, alarming, reporting, and more. Visit our Modules page to learn more.
What are Cirrus Link modules and how are they different from Ignition Modules?
Cirrus Link Solutions is a Strategic Partner of Inductive Automation; their modules are different from Ignition modules because they are not developed by Inductive Automation. Products developed by Strategic Partners are backed with a commitment to the long-term success of our customers. Inductive Automation sells the Cirrus Link modules but the technical support for these modules is provided by Cirrus Link Solutions.
How does Ignition’s free trial work?
You can download the full version of Ignition for free on our download page. Ignition only takes three minutes to install and it comes with all the core modules. By default, Ignition will run in trial mode which will timeout after two hours but you can manually reset it as many times as you wish, which allows you to build and test a full project in Ignition without buying a license. Once you’re ready, you can purchase and install your Ignition license key, which will take Ignition out of trial mode by removing the two-hour timeout. All your previous work will be saved with no additional installation required.
What do you mean by “unlimited licensing”?
Ignition is sold by the server, so the affordable cost of one license gives you an unlimited number of clients, tags, and connections — the only limiting factor for Ignition is the performance of the hardware you install it on. Visit our Unlimited Licensing page to learn more.
Which SQL databases does Ignition support?
Ignition supports all of the major SQL databases including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and IBM DB2.
What kind of devices can Ignition run on?
Ignition is cross-platform compatible so it can run on Windows 7, 8, and 10, and Windows Server 2008 and 2012, as well as Linux and macOS. Ignition can run on any device that runs Java, including PCs, laptops, servers, tablets, smartphones, remote field devices, and even Raspberry Pi’s.
Is Ignition compatible with other SCADA packages?
Yes, Ignition is based on open, non-proprietary, IT-standard technologies. Ignition is fully interoperable and compatible with other SCADA packages along with other industrial and enterprise systems. Ignition was designed to work great alongside other systems or on its own so it’s easy to fit into your existing solutions.
Who uses Ignition?
Ignition software is used by thousands of integrators and industrial organizations in more than 100 countries. It’s used by some of the biggest companies in the world in industries like oil and gas, water/wastewater, manufacturing, automotive, food processing and more.
